Then God Said, Let There Be Sex

(For a PDF file of this poem, see the very end)

*** This poem is Rated “G.” A comment at the end, however, (which I heard from Dr. James Dobson on Family Talk Radio) may be more appropriate for “PG” audiences.

 God spoke into being

The heavens and earth,[i]

Birds, fish and animals, [ii]

Which each would give birth.

Then, after all this,

He created a man, [iii]

Then took one of his ribs

To fulfill His great plan, [iv]

And from it, made woman [v]

With long flowing hair, [vi]

He then brought them together

So love, they could share.

He then said, “Be fruitful,

And so, fill the earth, [vii]

By coming together

And then giving birth,

For I’ve given to you

This most holy of gifts,

To reproduce life and

To avoid any drift –

In your love for each other,

For this will be glue

To bond you together,

To make ‘one’ from ‘two’.” [viii]

So, go and enjoy the

Great pleasure of love,

And treat it as holy,

This gift from above.

Then an angel, she asked, [ix]

“Lord, why do you give

A gift of such power

To these who will live –

Down here on the earth in

Their bodies of flesh, [x]

Isn’t living together

A strong enough mesh?”

Then God answered, “No, their

Love must be this strong,

For husband and wife to

Each other belong. [xi]

For the love between them,

Enhanced by this touch,

Will help paint a picture

Quite clear, of how much –

I so deeply love them, [xii]

For marriage will be,

In regard to my plan,

An analogy, [xiii]

For I’ll seek them as family, [xiv]

To make each one mine

And this paints a picture

Of my love, divine.

For I’ll love them and lead them

And lay down my life, [xv]

And in the same way the

Man should love his wife.” [xvi]

Then the angel asked, “Lord,

Will they use it wrong,

Outside of marriage where

You say it belongs?” [xvii]

God paused, then He said, with

Great tears in His eyes,

“Yes, sadly, great numbers,

My law will despise.

And destruction will follow,

With heartache and pain,

Divorce and abuse and

Abortion will reign.

And add to these sorrows

Addictions, disease,

With Satan proclaiming –

‘Rebellion, it frees!’ [xviii]

But it must be this way for

My plan to succeed,

So, for those who obey,

Their love won’t recede.

And I can forgive all [xix]

Who come to the cross, [xx]

So that only on earth, will

They suffer such loss.” [xxi]

*** According to Dr. James Dobson (former head of Focus on the Family and now head of Family Talk Radio):

1. Pornography is as addicting as cocaine, actually altering the physiology the brain.  If you are struggling with this, contact Family Talk or Focus on the Family.  They will be able to direct you to help.  (See their contact information under ‘Recommended Ministries’ in the ‘Miscellaneous’ section on this website.)

2. Regarding males before marriage and ‘m – – – – – – – – – – n”.   The subject is not addressed in the Bible.  99% of boys do it and 1% lie.  Some boys have turned away from their faith, because they believed it was wrong and the pressure was too strong to resist.  It should not, however, be carried into marriage.

*** Suggestions by this author:

1. Pray about you and your spouses’ sexual relationship.  Get God involved!  He invented it, it’s a gift from Him, and it’s too complex, too important and too easily messed up to leave Him out of the picture.

2. Be attractive and appealing to your spouse.  The world is trying to be this way. It would be a shame if one of the few people who isn’t trying, is one’s spouse.

[i]   In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

[ii]  And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. Genesis 1:24

[iii]  Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness . . . Genesis 1:26

[iv] So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Genesis 2:21

[v] Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. Genesis 2:22

[vi] Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? 1 Corinthians 11:14-15

[vii]  God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Genesis 1:28

[viii] But at the beginning of creation God `made them male and female.’ `For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” Mark 10:6-9

[ix] Then I looked up–and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork . . . Zechariah 5:9

[x] Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 1 Corinthians 15:39-40

[xi] The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. 1 Corinthians 7:3-5

[xii] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

[xiii] “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery–but I am talking about Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:31-32

[xiv] How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1

[xv] For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. 1 Peter 3:18

[xvi] Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her . . . Ephesians 5:25

[xvii] Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5

[xviii] He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

[xix] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

[xx] When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. Colossians 2:13-14

[xxi]  And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Revelation 7:17
