Invictus: The Sequel

As night began its’ covering,

As blackness veiled my eyes,

Defiantly, I said to God,

“Unconquered, I still rise.”[i]

Bludgeoned, sometimes bloodied,

I never cried or bowed.

“Your world will never humble me!”

This is what I vowed,

And dreamed of only void ahead,

So, death I did not fear,

But, now that it has come to pass,

I find I’m bowing here,[ii]

To the God of grace and love,

Of justice, mercy, might.

Now in my head and heart I know,[iii]

The Bible, it was right.

For He, who sits on Heaven’s throne,[iv]

Who died for all my sin,[v]

Created paradise for me,[vi]

And sought to bring me in.[vii]

And, He warned of punishment,

Which justice would require,[viii]

If His offer of forgiveness,

Through death, it did expire.[ix]

So, for me His tears are flowing[x]

And running down the scroll,[xi]

For foolishly, I chose this fate as

The captain of my soul.
